Ny runde af vintertælling af rød glente.
Like the International Waterbird census, Switzerland and France will organize for the 5th consecutive year a simultaneous census of the wintering red kites on 8/9 January 2011.
During the International Symposium on red kites organized in Montbeliard (North-East of France) on October 2009, Romain Riols, the French coordinator of the monitoring of wintering red kites suggested to extend this census to the other European countries (where red kites spend the winter season) in order to have a precise idea of the population and the distribution of wintering red kites.
In January 2010, some of you responded to this call. Wintering roosts were counted in Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain and Belgium despite the poor weather. All results, as well as the full results from France and Switzerland are available on the French Red Kite newsletter “Milan info” on pages 12-15 (It’s all in French. If you need any translation, please let me know). Thanks to all volunteers who have participated to this census.
These efforts should now be strengthened particularly in countries hosting large numbers of wintering Redkites. Thus we launch this new invitation to participate to the simultaneous census on January 8th and 9th.
We thank you for your attention.
